See a movie for a Buck!

For $10 per person, you can go to every movie in the Kids Movie Series this summer hosted by The Alameda Theatre & Cineplex on Central Ave in Alameda. That's about a dollar per movie – when you buy the movie “sheets” in person. Beat the line and buy online for $11/sheet. the Alameda Education Foundation is proud to participate in the Alameda Theater & Cineplex’ Family Summer Movie Series.  Celebrate summer and revisit your favorite family movies on the big screen.  Thanks to the Alameda Theater & Cineplex, all proceeds from ticket sales by the Alameda Education Foundation support Adopt A Classroom, Middle School Sports and Enrichment scholarship programs.
 
Showings are 10 am on both Tuesday and Wednesdays, and the series lasts for ten weeks, starting the week of June 13th.

"Family Night" (the fourth week of each month): Designed to give families an opportunity to spend more time together, this night features games and activities for the kids, including face painting, balloon twisting, crafts, and a host of fun shows and exhibits.   The Valley Children's Museum will be on hand throughout the Farmers' Market season.

Great American Campout!

Experience camping overnight and discover the fun within the great outdoors!

Includes dinner, s'mores, and continental breakfast. Families are responsible for bringing their own camping equipment. There is a limited supply of loaner camping gear. It's A Daddy Thang

This FREE 3-hour class taught by fathers is designed to build confidence and prepare dads to meet the challenges of having a new baby. Expecting dads and new dads learn from other men how to hold and comfort their baby, take care of an infant, as well as how to change a diaper. While you increase your baby skills, a baby shower will be held for your baby’s mother at the same time. Join us and experience twice the fun, information, and chance of winning prizes!

If you are an African American pregnant woman living in one of the zip codes, we are hosting a baby shower just for you!
 
Come hear about our health department program services that can you and your baby get a healthy start. Our free baby showers make learning fun and offer free child care, refreshments, and prizes.

SEPTEMBER 8, 2017 – FREE Harbor Tour (Oakland)
 
Bon Voyage . . . Sort of!  Get a Free tour of the Oakland Harbor.
 
The Port of Oakland is pleased to sponsor free harbor tours from May through October 2017 operated by Blue & Gold Fleet. The tours will be held twice monthly and each tour will last approximately 90-minutes.
 
Visitors will learn about the Port, its operations and economic impact on the region. Harbor tours provide a unique vantage point because marine terminals are closed to the public. The excursions are also a cost-effective way to give visitors a close-up look at how the Oakland seaport works.
 
Boarding will take place at the Ferry Dock at 540 Water Street (at Clay Street) in Jack London Square, Oakland 94607. Online registration will open on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. (PDT) beginning on Monday, May 1, 2017. There are 230 spaces available on each harbor tour.

Pregnancy Basics
 
Learn what to expect while you're expecting!
 
This class prepares pregnant women for a healthy pregnancy and baby. In addition to pregnancy, you will learn about available resources for you and your baby.
Pregnancy Basics will be taught in two- 2 hour classes.

You will learn:
  • How to get what you need out of your prenatal care visits
  • How to take care of yourself during and after pregnancy
  • What to expect during childbirth
  • The In’s and Out’s of the importance of Breastfeeding
  • How to care for your newborn, and much more!

A $25 Safeway gift card and other items are raffled at every class! Participants who complete all classes in the series have a chance to win a stroller and/or car seat for their baby.

OCTOBER 14, 2017 - Harvest Fair (Dublin)

Turn back time and enjoy an afternoon of old-fashioned fall fun at the picturesque Heritage Park and Museums. The rustic barns, cemetery and historic buildings at the park provide the perfect setting for all of the aromas and sounds of fall on the farm.  Live music will fill the air as visitors enjoy tractor-pulled wagon-rides, play in a hay stack, and stroll through the vendor booths. The 1910 Kolb House and 1850s Murray Schoolhouse will be open during the event for tours.  Enticing fall foods, including caramel apples, pie, hot apple cider, and popcorn will be available for purchase.
